Mary Anning and the Sea Dragon

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Michael Dooling. In the early 1800s, Anning--then a young girl--was responsible for uncovering a fossilized sea reptile in England. This fictionalized story focuses on her excavation of the fossil and her fascination with what became her life's work. An afterword describes Anning's place in the history of paleontology. Dooling's illustrations create a foggy seaside atmosphere but don't show the excavated fossil. No sources are given.
