YOUNGER FICTION
Carrington, Leonora

The Milk of Dreams

(3) 1-3 "Mrs. Dolores Catapum de la Garza was old, ugly, a nasty person, and smelled of caca." So begins a typically odd story in this collection of vignettes by Carrington, an English-born Mexican surrealist artist and writer (1917–2011); her spare accompanying illustrations are frequently absurd (see "Headless John"). Children receptive to the bizarre may find that Carrington's work favorably recalls Shel Silverstein's, minus the rhymes.
