The Prince Who Ran Away: The Story of Gautama Buddha

(4) 4-6 Illustrated by Fahimeh Amiri. Rockwell uses poetic, elaborate storytelling language to narrate the legend of Prince Siddhartha and his transformation into the Buddha. Amiri's illustrations are well suited to the subject, with the flat perspectives, stylized figures, and detailed patterns of Indian art. Both legend and introduction to Buddhism, this complex story is sometimes difficult to follow.
