There Was a Little Girl, She Had a Little Curl

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Elliot Kreloff. Isabel--the girl of wayward-curl fame--awakes one morning determined to be very, very good, but she ultimately finds her mother's makeup irresistible and scissors the only cure for her unruly mane. It's about time someone gave flesh to this irrepressible nursery rhyme legend, but Ziefert's resolution is rather limp. Kreloff's scribbly kid-friendly illustrations, however, are a real treat.
