PRESCHOOL
(4) PS Illustrated by David McPhail. A little girl first announces the coming of twilight to a city street then takes off for the sky to handle twilight tasks: reading a bedtime story to the setting sun and scolding an owl for waking up too soon. The pacing is slow, and the conceit that the girl is the "keeper of twilight" is never explained, but McPhail's rich, color-drenched watercolors bring on night with a flourish.
