Most of the activities in this collection touch on such concepts or skills as symmetry, volume, estimation, and measurement, but a few, including a card trick and a surface tension experiment, lack a strong math tie-in and seem out of place. Cartoon-style illustrations help to clarify the directions for activities, most of which require common household and classroom items such as rulers, newspaper, and string.

Fairy-tale characters keep asking Red Riding Hood to share what's in her basket. Readers turn the wheel on each page and decide whether to hand out zero, one, or two cookies, the idea being to keep track of how many cookies are left for Grandma. The rhyming text is pedestrian and there's no way to check the "correct" answer, but the game element and pleasing illustrations will sustain interest.
