(4) K-3 An uneven prose poem recalls the creation of the Statue of Liberty, its arrival in the United States, and its importance as a symbol of America for immigrants. Most of the book's appeal comes from the art, which provides unusual perspectives of the monument, such as laborers hammering copper sheets to a single foot and Liberty's face peeking out over scaffolding above a Paris street.
