The concept of texture is introduced with bright, full-page color photographs of familiar items. Each is accompanied by descriptive words for the ways in which items such as tiles (smooth), slippers (fluffy), jam (sticky), rocks (hard) feel. The choices of textures to feature are appealing, but the accompanying descriptors lack variety and do little to bolster scientific vocabulary.
