(4) 4-6 Bewitched in Oz series. Separated from his friends outside Glinda's castle, Brink awakens alone and imprisoned. Meanwhile, unexpected help from Ozma reunites Zerie and Vashti with Tabitha. They plot against Glinda, who they now realize is evil, and create a three-pronged attack with pearls from the mermaid queen. Burns's second re-envisioning of Oz, though overcrowded with incident and characters, provides a strong theme of friendship to a fast-paced adventure.

(4) YA Foster teen Sarah, who keeps her exceptionally sharp memory secret, is shocked to get a scholarship to elite prep school Sanctuary Bay in Maine. Once she's initiated into the school's secret society, seemingly innocent activities are revealed to have undertones so insidious Sarah doubts her own perceptions. Mystery, romance, and some familiar psychological-thriller elements keep the plot moving.

(4) YA Shay (Crave) discovers she's half human, half vampire. She and love Gabriel are confident in their relationship--until Shay meets Gabriel's vampire family. Gabriel must face the ultimate decision whether to choose family or love. Touching on themes of hope, rejection, and the power of love, the story is satisfying, if melodramatic.
