Violet and her fellow fans of dystopian novel The Gallows Dance are transported from Comic-Con to the story's world. When they inadvertently cause the death of protagonist Rose, Violet must live out Rose's role in the grim tale. The novel derives some interesting scenes from the premise of exploring a favorite story from within, but the eventual explanation of the magic is convoluted.
