How the Rooster Got His Crown

(2) K-3 A Miao pourquoi story from Western China tells how the sun, hiding in a cave, hears a rooster crow, and, enamored of the sound, slowly reappears to the cheers of the townsfolk. As a token of his gratitude, the sun gives the rooster a small red crown. The illustrations reflect the traditions of ancient scroll paintings; the pacing of the story is synchronized with the pictures so that the visual and verbal elements form a seamless unit.
