Two sisters discover a woolly bear caterpillar in their family’s garden in late summer. The girls are disappointed when their “new friend” seemingly disappears later in fall, but they move on to their “next adventure”; a final illustration shows their friend has reemerged in the spring as a tiger moth. Arthur effectively captures how children’s interests wax and wane. Her detailed illustrations do a particularly good job of depicting the girls’ expressive faces.
