Collage illustrations show city-dwellers of all ethnicities, ages, and sizes hustling down to the subway to wait out the storm. Karas's pictures combine painting, drawing, and photographs to show the grit, energy, and beauty of the urban scene and its amusingly quirky people.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Randy Cecil. En route to his urban neighborhood's block party, an exuberant boy asks kids the titular question. Their upbeat responses include "I wokka-wokka / like flamingos / in a flocka…" and "I wokka-wokka / like a clock / go ticka-tocka...." This ear-pleasing ode to individuality--"Nobody wokkas / in the same wokka way"--features spirited illustrations of kids busting a move or two.

(3) K-3 Illustrated by Anne Wilsdorf. Humorous watercolors match the tongue-twisting text in this laugh-out-loud tale of what happens when too many dogs leap, pounce, jump, and snuggle their way on and off the family bed--displacing their human companions. The story's amusing conclusion offers a comforting solution that keeps everyone warm and happy.
