To find out what kinds of animals live in this (unspecified) tropical rainforest ecosystem, young readers can first respond to the text's questions ("What's hiding under this leaf?"), then hold up the book to a light source to see an animal's image projected through onto each right-facing page.

In this unusual book, readers see a full-color illustration of the front of the tree, but holding the page to light reveals exquisite black-and-white woodcuts of what lies beneath the surface: a house for a woodpecker, a warren for rabbits, etc. Here's an excursion for armchair naturalists filled with information and wonder.
