While Fran is terribly busy making something for her "best friend," her dog, Fred, pesters her to take him out to play. Despairing, he gives up and slinks over to his bed. Fran finishes her surprise and presents it to the intended recipient, Fred. Bright illustrations joyfully complement the reassuring story.

Fran finds a flowerpot with a tiny shoot peeking out and wants to see it grow. She tries to feed it pizza and ice cream but nothing happens. Frustrated, Fran throws it outside, never noticing the elements' effects on the abandoned pot until she's greeted by its beautiful flower. Although the story is slight, cheery pastels illustrate familiar feelings of frustration and joy.
