When Sam and Pop fall asleep at the zoo, the animals get hold of Pop's cell phone, and chaos ensues. Caple's pen-and-ink and acrylic illustrations directly reflect each action described in the simple easy-reader text. Plot is scarce, but variation in the visibility of brushstrokes and the playfully hyperbolic expressions of surprise on human and animal characters' faces enliven the pages.

Four stories span three seasons, feature two sheep, and illuminate one great friendship. Blanche and Otis rake leaves in the fall, and after a storm topples Otis's tree, Blanche gives him a baby pine tree for Christmas and presents him with lawn chairs made from his old tree. Caple's soft illustrations depict the changing seasons and emphasize the quiet mood of the episodic plot.

When young Hillary, comfortable with her round self, has a chance to fulfill her dream of becoming an actress, svelte sister Felice convinces her to lose weight for the audition. An encounter with a famed actress, round but glamorous, restores Hillary's contentment with her weight. The message is obvious, but the pastel-colored illustrations of the cat characters are amusing.
