With simple language and bold computer-rendered illustrations, this book follows the relationship between a farmer and his tractor, which he calls Ol' Partner, through the seasons. The tractor has many responsibilities, from planting to mowing to providing fun. Many kinds of farm equipment are mentioned, and the visually arresting images show tools operating from a variety of interesting perspectives.

Clement gives readers the feeling of watching a stock-car race while delivering information regarding the meaning of commonly used stock-car racing flags and racing terminology. The text is sparse, but high-octane phrasing creates an element of excitement, and there's a nice twist at book's end. Slick, bright computer-rendered illustrations splashed across double-page spreads further the aura of energetic competition.

"Boss says, 'Dig a hole!' / And the excavator tips its bucket and starts to dig." A foreman's commands to the operators of seven different trucks at a construction site result in a lovely park. The digital art succeeds at reflecting the vastness of the project's scope.

A child describes his trucker dad's typical workday, which includes hauling gear, waving at kids in cars, and eating at a diner; the day ends with a father-son game of catch. The slick digital art diminishes the story's warmth, but truckaholics won't mind.
