K-3
Illustrated by
Sarah McMenemy.
In not so many words, a boy describes the evolution of his attitude toward his younger brother: from tag-along pest to, once he starts school, companion. The "first rule" reveal comes at the end and isn't exactly a showstopper, but readers will find the road leading there funny and relatable. The mixed-media art has verve.

In unfailingly cheery couplets, a preschooler with three siblings tells about her daily activities--from waking up and getting ready for school to her bedtime routine. "One more story? / Please, please, please? / Tuck us in so we / won't freeze." Despite a few awkward places, the scribbly, expressive illustrations draw readers in with their bright colors and close-up views of children.
