This collection of six interconnected stories, each one set slightly further into the future than the last, imagines teenagers facing different stages of technological advancement and the subsequent questions it raises regarding what it means to love, fear, learn, and be human. The stories cohere into a thoughtful dystopian novel examining technology and the human experience.

In the third and final book (Seeker; Traveler), Seekers Quin, Shinobu, and John work to end the conflict among Seeker factions, channel their powers for good, and exert control over their own destinies. Sweeping world-building sometimes overwhelms the story, and depictions of the mundane world are flattened to the point of stereotype. Nevertheless, the scrappy, thoughtful characters and well-structured plot will keep readers invested.

Delving into backstory and world-building, this second installment of Dayton's science-fiction epic (Seeker) will not disappoint readers. While John and the Young Dread trace John's mother's path of revenge, Quin and Shinobu discover that the disappearance of the Seekers is linked to the Middle Dread's sinister activities. Internal conflict abounds, and a heartbreaking cliffhanger ending will leave fans eager for book three.
