Rhys Davies.
Ryber is the only Sister at the convent who hasn't become a Sightwitch with the gift of foretelling. When the other Sisters mysteriously disappear into their goddess's mountain, Ryber sets out after them to discover why. This prequel to Truthwitch and Windwitch--a novella of journal entries and drawings from multiple sources--doesn't stand alone, but it will appeal to fans of the fantasy series.

Having learned they may be "the mythical Cahr Awen"--a duo prophesied to heal magic in the Witchlands--Threadsisters Safi and Iseult (Threadwitch) are desperate to stop a looming war. But with a powerful Windwitch after the throne and a Bloodwitch on their trails, they may never reunite. Intricate world-building and multiple points of view should help readers through this dense fantasy's draggier parts.

Iseult, a Threadwitch, sees and can manipulate people's emotional ties. Safiya, Iseult's Threadsister, is a Truthwitch, able to immediately tell truth from lies. When Safi's powerful magic is discovered, the two young women flee, chased by several navies and a Bloodwitch determined to sniff them out. The plot drags at times, but the world-building is vibrant and fully realized.

As the Spirit-Hunters travel to Egypt to stop their nemesis Marcus from raising a malignant creature from the dead, Eleanor struggles to balance her loyalty to the Spirit-Hunters with her attraction to black magic. This magic, channeled by (mostly) trustworthy demon Oliver, proves a double-edged sword in the final battle. Eleanor's poor choices and arrogance can be aggravating but contribute to an action-packed conclusion.

In Something Strange and Deadly, Eleanor helped fight the reanimated Dead terrorizing 1870s Philadelphia. Now she travels to Paris to reunite with the Spirit-Hunters; (annoyingly) against her better judgment, she becomes involved with a demon and necromantic magic en route. It's somewhat refreshing to see both heroine Eleanor's dark side and the subsequent ratcheting up of her snarky banter with love-interest Daniel.

In 1870s Philadelphia, Eleanor suspects her brother has been kidnapped by a necromancer and the reanimated Dead. To rescue him, she teams up with Spirit-Hunters, who possess the magic and technology to destroy the Dead. The lukewarm love triangle of determined Eleanor, wealthy Clarence, and scruffy Spirit-Hunter Daniel only slightly detracts from the compelling blend of magic, zombies, and political conspiracy.
