Lucia was born during a lunar eclipse, and her mother (who's left the family) always said that Lucia has a special connection with the moon. On her thirteenth birthday there's another eclipse, and Lucia begins having out-of-body experiences during which she's considerably more assertive than in normal life. The story's middle-school angst is relatable, but that it's solved by magical intervention is unpersuasive.

Spacepop series.
Illustrated by
Jen Bartel.
After escaping evil empress Geela's hostile takeover of the Pentangle galaxy, five princesses assume secret identities and form a band (Princesses). When not doing publicity or in competitions, SPACEPOP works with freedom fighters (Resistance). Fans of the animated YouTube show on which this music- and fashion-centric series is based may not mind the uneven pacing. Full-color graphic-novel inserts bring their performances to life. Review covers the following Spacepop titles: Not Your Average Princesses and Rocking the Resistance.

In the same format as Laura Dower's For Girls Only, this volume focuses solely on soccer. Wide-ranging topics include training, strategies, nutrition, top youth tournaments, and ideas for pre-game songs; a section of trading-card-style player bios (with black-and-white photos) is included. Flashy graphics in a palette of green, gray, and black frame the densely packed information. Bib.
