(3) 4-6 Penhallow, a "Grotesque" (don't call him a gargoyle!), is charged with protecting his Boston "Domain" from danger--but his perception of what's dangerous may be skewed. The first-person narration from sometimes-overconfident Penhallow has plenty of humor. Suspense involving the creepy Boneless King--as well as an apparent ally who isn't what she seems--should keep readers turning pages.

(3) 4-6 Luck Uglies series. Illustrated by Pétur Antonsson. Having narrowly saved her father from the titular villains of the preceding Fork-Tongue Charmers, Rye returns to Village Drowning to save her home. Folly and Quinn help Rye set up the final epic battle between the Luck Ugly factions developed throughout the trilogy. Durham serves up a satisfying series conclusion full of familiar characters and daring hijinks.

(3) 4-6 Illustrated by Pétur Antonsson. After being declared outlaws in Village Drown by the evil sheriff, Rye O'Chanter and her family flee to her mother's birthplace, the Isle of Pest. Facing culture shock and the politics of their refuge, Rye struggles to fulfill her birthright, defeat the Luck Uglies' rivals, and save both her homes. Durham's fast-paced sequel offers relatable characters, adventure, humor, and heartfelt moments.

When the earl does nothing to protect the villagers from marauding monsters, Drowning's only hope is the Luck Uglies, a notorious outlaw gang--that may or may not exist. Durham's fast-paced narrative and clever characters enhance this humorous and engaging tale.
