Toni's ill-advised but inconsequential fling results in bullying at school. She meets the weirdly intense Cass, who uses the occult to take revenge on her enemies. Toni and Cass bond over witchcraft, until things start to spiral out of control, making it clear that there's something more going on with Cass. Fredericks writes well, despite the overt lessons and unsubtle emotions of the characters.

Rain's ebullient friend Wendy is found murdered in Central Park, and Rain suspects that someone at her prestigious prep school is the killer. In the midst of the ensuing media firestorm, normally introverted Rain overcomes her reticence to crack the case. This salacious mystery's breakneck pacing (including well-placed red herrings) and staccato, dialogue-heavy narration will keep readers turning pages.

In the Cards series.
Thirteen-year-old Anna inherits tarot cards that clearly predict a future romance for her. Or do they? The book focuses on the intense daily dramas of the middle school social scene. Where the cards are not always clear, the story is comfortably predictable. The final chapter promises another reading of the cards with Syd's or Eve's (Anna's best friends) story next.
