Countries of the World series.
Striking photographs of artwork, contemporary daily life, and wildlife such as pangolins, pottos, and duikers make this an attractive introduction to the "Giant of Africa." Complexities of economics and politics and some of the dire effects of industrialization and urban overcrowding are briefly touched upon. This competent if dull series entry will serve the needs of report writers. Covering the usual bases of geography, history, contemporary life, culture, and the economy, the maps and graphs found throughout the book are useful features. A recipe and phrases in several Nigerian languages are also included. The timeline contrasts world historical events with Nigerian history. Bib., glos., ind.

This broad survey explores the geography, history, economics, and culture of the East African country. The encyclopedia-quality prose is accompanied by clear color photographs, as well as charts, graphs, recipes, and a glossary of Swahili words.
