Clear explanations and the subjects' positive attitudes make potentially unsettling topics accessible. Though small, the photos are contemporary and relevant. While Sickle Cell carries fourteen-year-old Keone's story through subsequent chapters describing general symptoms, causes, diagnosis, treatment, and research, Cerebral Palsy lays out the facts and then introduces a second personal story.
