In this pleasant if predictable novel, Amy, tired of being a frightened "mama's girl," agrees to spend the summer at the beach with an unfamiliar great-aunt. Her efforts to overcome her shyness and make friends with neighbor Crystal run into difficulties until her neighbor helps Amy understand Crystal's defensiveness. Softly realistic halftone illustrations are scattered throughout the story.
