In the latest Dinotopia installment, Professor Denison and Saurian Bix venture eastward to Chandara, exploring Dinotopia along the way. Creative settings and unusual creatures may hook some readers, but the story often halts in favor of description and much of the narration reads like summary. Lifelike illustrations and diagrams and are the book's greatest strength.

In this sequel to Dinotopia, Will and his father, Arthur, continue exploring the lost island where humans and dinosaurs peacefully coexist. While Will performs a dangerous mission on the back of a flying reptile, Arthur explores underground caves, where he discovers intriguing ancient technology. The profusely detailed color illustrations are the volume's chief interest; the disjointed story is blandly related.

After being shipwrecked, explorer Arthur Denison and his son Will are beached on an island where dinosaurs and humans co-exist in a magnificent civilization. Father and son record the biology, technology, and customs of this strange world in journal entries, abundantly supplemented by lavish color illustrations. The text is less an involving story than a detailed catalog of Dinotopia discoveries.
