This romantic picture-book account details the conception, design, and construction of the Frank Lloyd Wright house Fallingwater in Pennsylvania. The prose is by turns straightforward, staccato, and lyrical. Readers may recognize Pham's usual visual style in the cartoony human figures, but elsewhere the watercolor, ink, and gouache art channels Wright's clean design and its unique, organic harmony with nature. An extended family enjoys an end-of-summer gathering, celebrated here from car trip through fond future recollection. Digital and pen-and-ink illustrations achieve a layered effect that captures the joyful characters, multigenerational connections, and idyllic setting. Shared meals, camping, storytelling, fishing, and more are all punctuated by bold, singular verbs that drive the story: "When the trip gets long...Dad says COUNT."

"There may be only one neighborhood, but there is so much in it." On each double-page spread, repetitive left-hand text attempts to illustrate conceptual differences between one and many ("...only one pizzeria...many pizzas"), while textured mixed-media collagraphs (some muddy) on the right-hand pages show homey city scenes. A sappy ending--"...there are many countries. But...only one wish: PEACE"--hammers home the book's message.

As a young brother and sister settle in for what will be an all-night drive to their grandparents' house, their father turns the car from familiar streets onto the highway and eventually onto smaller and smaller roads until "no roads now. / Only a gate, a path, / the steps, and we're there!" This prose poem, complete with soft, ruminative acrylic illustrations, artfully evokes the rhythm of a moving car.

Rhyming text enumerates the colors and sights of fall including orange pumpkins and Scarecrow's black hat. The rhymes are often forced, but the rich pastel illustrations are handsome. Large expanses of color and sculptural shapes defined by shadow are particularly suited to sharing with a group.
