After informing the reader that she is "ever so helpful," a girl furnishes proof: she (loudly) provides her parents with a wake-up call, makes (read: spills) breakfast, etc. The notion of a supremely confident child with blind spots regarding her true nature isn't original (cf. Fancy Nancy), but Henn's illustrations--crisp, uncluttered compositions in a retro color scheme--sure are.

"When you see something terrific... / ...smile a smile and pass it on. / If you chance upon a chuckle, / hee hee hee and pass it on." This random acts of kindness–promoting primer stars a diverse group of kids and animals whooping it up, even in the rain. This doesn't grow tiresome because each spread offers a unique blast of color and depicts a whimsical activity.

A bear cub outgrows their home, so its little-boy owner searches for an appropriate place "where [it] can be bearish and big." The simple narrative doesn't really go beyond this premise, each refused proposition followed by "Then where, bear?" The refrain is catchy initially but, like Bear, is soon overgrown. Henn's stylish illustrations on matte, subdued-colored pages keep things interesting.

Pom Pom Panda wakes up grumpy: "nothing was right," from his soggy cereal to his freezing "flannel" (washcloth). Even his playground friends can't cheer him up: he yells "GO AWAY!", then quickly realizes his mistake. Young readers will empathize with Pom Pom's feelings and actions, but some may stumble on the import's British terminology. The simple, saturated illustrations are well balanced.
