Hope's cystic fibrosis keeps her from normal teenage activities. Then a creepy note directs her to a warehouse at night; she dares to go, joining four other girls in a series of dangerous feats. Hope finds the challenge and the camaraderie invigorating, but she also begins to suspect a sinister hand behind the games in this twisty but implausibly over-the-top mystery.

Indigo's search for Paige (kidnapped in Hexed) takes her to an alternate version of Los Angeles where the rivalry between witches and warlocks plays out even more viciously than in the real world. Conflicts with her aunt and a romantic temptation other than her boyfriend complicate her mission. Long on exciting violence and short on story development, this sequel doesn't stand alone.

Popular cheerleader Indigo discovers she's a witch on the brink of her powers. She must reevaluate her friendships while working with a charming warlock to fend off a cabal of sorcerers bent on death and destruction. An unarticulated backstory about the witches and sorcerers' war makes the plot twists feel convenient, but the novel's action is fast paced and the characters are likable.
