In this final installment, Peer and Hilde (Troll Fell, Troll Mill) set sail for Vinland aboard a Viking longship. Langrish skillfully mixes Norse and Native American mythology with history and a touch of magic. As in the previous books, the story is layered and gripping, and the characters are well drawn. The ending will satisfy series fans.

Set during the time of the Vikings, this fantasy has all the makings of a fine adventure. Orphaned Peer is hauled off to live with his horrid twin uncles, who plan to make their fortune by giving him to the trolls as a gift. A spunky neighbor girl and a house elf help him foil the evil uncles' plot. The trolls and other gruesome but humorous creatures prompt both shudders and laughs.
