The exclusive Quatra Fleet Academy now welcomes cadets from all planets in the solar system. Admiral's daughter Vesper competes for a captain's spot with Cormak, a poor boy from a toxic planet; Arran, a sheltered boy from an icy planet, falls for the wrong boy; and Orelia struggles in the Academy as she hides a big secret. Can these cadets work as a team? Morgan creates a well-drawn interplanetary society in this series-starting space opera.

In the sequel to The 100, the hundred are reeling from the surprise that they aren't alone on Earth. While in space, serious problems with the ship cause the colonists to contemplate abandoning it. In chapters alternating between characters' perspectives, inconsistent plotting and emotional development strain credibility, but readers who enjoy their sci-fi with romance and drama will still be plenty entertained.

One hundred incarcerated teenagers are sent back to Earth, centuries after a nuclear holocaust forced humanity to leave for a space station, to recolonize the planet. Four of the delinquents are the focus, but they are rather thin characters whose fuzzy internal motivations must serve to move the plot along. Still, this standard post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel will likely please genre fans.
