When almost-eight-year-old Ronnie stays with his grandparents without Mama, he's sure he'll have the worst vacation ever: his cousins will tease him, he'll have to jump off the high diving board, and his too-big "bathing costume" will fall off. Complementing the day-by-day narration are charming illustrations giving life to Ronnie's efforts to overcome his relatable fears and have a terrific vacation.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Olivier Tallec. A little boy has just lost his mother "this morning." The portrayal of childhood grief and healing is authentic, albeit via a very adult articulation. Although the absence of religious comfort in favor of the dead parent being "in your heart" is notable, it's hard to know who this book might be for. Simple pencil and red acrylic illustrations suit the single-minded text.
