K-3
With more entertaining die-cuts and lift-the-flaps than the previous book, Kokeshi Kimonos, these companion books featuring Japanese dolls have a stronger appeal. Aoki visits her friend in Tokyo; Yumi goes to a costume party. Introducing details about Japanese life, the stories may have a narrow audience, but the book design is handsome and the illustrations in a muted palette are sophisticated. This review covers this book and Aoki.
