The forest animals are afraid to approach fierce-looking Yeti--until they watch him rescue and play with a small lost bird. When cold weather forces the bird to leave, lonely Yeti is happy to discover that the forest animals want to be friends. Shireen's mixed-media compositions make good use of the contrast between the mountainous white yeti and the little orange bird.

The friendship of dog Monty and cat Presto is threatened when the former, who wins fans as a carnival magician, gets a big head; it's only when Presto walks away that Monty comes to his senses. The clean, peppy illustrations are an equal partner in the storytelling, showing both how Presto makes Monty's tricks work and Monty's undoing without him.

A mild-mannered young wolf encounters the Big Bad Wolf, who challenges him to "howl at the moon," "blow houses in," and "eat people up"--in short, to behave like a "proper wolf." Shireen's illustrations make the most of the contrast between the toothy villain and the virtuous youngster in this humorous tale, which ends with a sly surprise.
