Time for Kids Special Edition series.
Organized chronologically by each state's entrance into the Union, every page (one per state) is packed with history, geography, and trivia about notable residents (both human and animal). Cross-curricular possibilities make this a useful addition to elementary classrooms, but the textbooklike design is off-putting. Ind.

Accompanied by photographs, reproductions of posters, and sidebars, these distractingly designed biographies provide solid information about each person's life, family, and accomplishments. The text takes on complex subjects, such as segregation, but remains accessible for the audience. The books conclude with a short interview of a person associated with the subject (however tangentially). Timeline.
