Young Jules spars with his mother about what kind of pet he can have. He wants a lion; Mom counters with a stick-insect. “Then I want a hippopotamus.” Mom offers a goldfish. Finally, Jules slyly suggests, “Okay. I want a dog!” The color-rich illustrations play up the story’s humor.
