First published in 1953, this anniversary edition features a larger trim size, new design, and colorized illustrations. In twenty traditional stories, anthropomorphic animals speak and take human form, childless couples are blessed with babies, and the poor are rewarded while the greedy suffer punishment. The stories share similarities with Aesop's fables but incorporate distinctly Japanese details.
