The temporary solution--the attic of a human home--becomes undesirable because of the noisy humans down below. This quirky perspective and the slightly slapdash illustrations afford humor that offsets the predictable denouement.

In this rewarding circular story, enthusiastic reader Dog, inspired by the story of Puss in Boots, embarks on a quest for some "Bow WOW" yet practical footwear. Assisted by a friendly shopkeeper, he goes through lots of different pairs in order to find his perfect fit. Textures and patterns enhance the humorous illustrations starring an expressive pooch.

(4) K-3 Illustrated by Roberta Angaramo. When a school talent show is announced, Errol the Elephant worries that he has no special talent. His father gives him a book about elephants that inspires Errol to demonstrate the versatility of his very useful nose. The predictable story is rescued by Angaramo's vibrant, energetic illustrations full of affection for the little pachyderm.

As the story unfolds, readers learn step-by-step what led to the mailman's tumble and what started it all: "the girl with the long leaky hose / that squirted the flock full of curious crows." Lively illustrations accompany this jaunty take on the House-That-Jack-Built classic.
