In this continuation of PeeWee's Tale, PeeWee is no longer the only guinea pig loose in Central Park. He courts the nervous Plush, makes a plan to survive the winter, and teaches Plush with sophisticated lectures: "only in a large zoo like this one can you find such a range of diverse animals...." Illustrated with active line drawings, this is a pleasant if not entirely convincing fantasy.

With his greedy brother, Josh, Tarron fishes the sea and dreams of sailing for adventure on his own someday. When they haul in a merbaby with their catch, Josh wants to put her in a glass cage and charge admission to see her, but Tarron decides he must return her to her ocean home. Though the telling occasionally becomes overly sentimental, the watercolor paintings express an enchantingly romantic air.

In this sequel to PeeWee's Tale, Central Park squirrel Lexi and her guinea pig pal PeeWee help a human stranger and prepare for the squirrel circus. The satisfying story, with its bit of mystery, happy ending, and likable animal characters, is presented in a cozily small format, liberally sprinkled with pencil sketches.

PeeWee is a guinea pig whose mother taught him to read from the scraps of newspaper lining his cage. His skills come in handy after his new owners dump him in Central Park and leave him to fend for himself. PeeWee is an engaging character, but it's difficult to accept that he can survive so easily outside his cage. The expressive line drawings in this small book add to the charm.

When an energetic bunny can't sleep at naptime, his tired siblings tell him to go somewhere else. He tries but ends up disturbing families of other animals, too. Finally, a porcupine sends him bouncing back home where his bounciness saves the day. Newly illustrated with vivid pastel colors, the story may be too sweet for some.

Thora is a dedicated female worker bee who performs her duties without question--until the rebellious thinker Mo suggests there is more to life than endless labor. Lally raises many questions here, addressing sexism, classism, government, religion, and the value of art and of labor. Illustrations of spindly-legged bees with human features further reveal individual personalities, and lively dialogue brings the hive to life.
