A sister instructs her younger brother on the proper care and feeding (read: manipulation) of parents. Her lessons include how to get chips and cookies for lunch, how to stay up late, and ways to "maybe" get a puppy. Cartoon illustrations in muted colors underscore the tongue-in-cheek humor (though the one-note joke goes on too long).

Fernie and his nameless narrator friend take a free-verse and freely associative trip around the world in this companion to Fearless Fernie. The sightseeing and related high jinks are frequently goofy; the book is an authentic boy's-eye view of daydreamed foreign adventure and the rewards of best-friendship. Scattered pen-and-ink drawings honor both the humor and amity of the poems.

The skin, the brain, the lungs, "boy parts," and "girl parts" are among the organs and systems of the human body celebrated in this collection. Though the poems occasionally seem labored and the rhymes (which pair words like mark and start) aren't always precise, the book's lessons about anatomy and physiology are imparted in a genial way. Comical acrylic illustrations assist in keeping the tone light. Further reading.
