Rhymed couplets initially highlight words that don't begin with the target letter ("U isn't for teams; it isn't for streams"), then present a word that does: "U is for unicorn that visits in dreams." The rhymes are playful but random. Most of the illustrations incorporate the accompanying text's many animals and objects into a single scene.

Papa Noël lives in the swamp and delivers toys in a canoe pulled by a team of alligators. When a thick fog threatens his night's work, the Cajuns' bonfires light the way. This Louisiana version of the North Pole tale is laced with French words and Southern twang. Illustrations rich with swampy greens and glowing purples evoke the bayou setting.
