A five-year-old's first trip to the ballet is described in clipped rhymes: "Murmurs, whispers. Velvet seat. / Clutching program. Swinging feet." The illustrations of the onstage action are somewhat static, but the young theatergoer in her bright red coat is engaging: "Twirling home. Sway and prance. / Captivated by the dance."
