In accessible rhyming verse, the young narrator of this queer-themed picture book describes their mixed-race family's preparations for a Pride parade. One mom packs lunch, while the other mom makes sure the narrator and little sibling (both of whom have brown skin) get to bed early. But before bed, the family shares the story of the Stonewall Riots and "the very first Pride" with baby Sammy. The family-friendly text and simple cartoon illustrations handle discussion of the police raids and protests in an age-appropriate way. In general, Pride staples such as drag queens, bikers, and glitter, as well as participants of all ages, races, genders, and abilities are depicted as a smiling egalitarian community. This affirming story centers its protagonist's assessment, "Pride means to me: Being yourself is a blast!"

When a baked-potato-loving woman decides to get a dog, she finds a "smooth" and "warm" pup and names him Baked Potato. When the lady goes out, the dog goes looking for her, and a series of encounters leads him to realize he is not, in fact, an actual baked potato. Medina's digital illustrations use color and line effectively; and though the details are quirky, the arc of Primavera's story is familiar and comforting.

Lena isn't nervous to start kindergarten...but her shoes are. Lena enlists her headband (who is "a good listener") to talk to them, and, with fears assuaged and a bit of reverse psychology, Lena and her outfit make it to the first day. Child-friendly digital illustrations depict the shaking shoes; the happy results of previous times Lena was brave; and, finally, everyone's shoes mingling happily on the playground.

Playing fetch with the offstage narrator ("Stick?"), good-natured dog Smick is distracted by a "Cluck!" All ends in joyful doggy/chick friendship. Communicating Smick's boundless energy, digital art mostly consists of simple black lines against expansive white space. Minimal text cleverly plays with meaning via word order and context, encouraging independent reading and allowing readers to flesh out the story themselves.
