After a young boy's grandma tells him how to look for God in everyday life, Galatians' "Fruit of the Spirit" (scripture quotation appended) is revealed to him as he goes about his day in the city. Though the illustrations have a slick, overly cartoonish quality, they reflect a realistic urban diversity that works well with the ode to opening one's heart and noticing life's little blessings.

Each time Cap'n Rex's dinosaur-pirate crew faces a supposedly insurmountable challenge, he asks, "Can't ye?" His question always works, as different crew members devise an inventive solution to each problem. Rex gets his comeuppance when it's time to share the booty. Static illustrations nevertheless add humor, and there's read-aloud appeal in the abundant pirate terms included throughout (and in an appended glossary).
