This story is based on an incident from the author's childhood and set against the background of the 1950s Castro revolution. Alfredito and his family are trying to get from Havana to Santiago on Christmas Eve, but Castro's rebel soldiers have blown up the train tracks and the buses are full. The acrylic paintings have an appealing realism that brings Alfredito's journey to life, but, like the text, are occasionally stiff. Glos.
