When Achbar the mouse is not chosen by Noah to enter the Ark, he decides to stow away. During the voyage, he hides by turn in the sheep's wool, under the tortoise's shell, and in the lion's mane, in addition to finding secure spots with many of the other animals. Because there is no real threat if the mouse is discovered, the story lacks tension and serves mainly as a vehicle for Santore's detailed pictures of the Ark and the various beasts within.
