(4) K-3 Illustrated by Friederike Rave. Anna lives someplace where it hasn't snowed for years. After seeing a white horse made from sugar ("or was it ice?") in a bakery window, she wishes for snow. Each of the delicate illustrations includes small patches of white (a pane of glass, a bedroom rug), echoing Anna's longing. A lack of clear cause-and-effect in the plot limits the story's success.
