Bardhan-Quallen takes her time humanizing her subject, giving lots of background information (though a repeated "moving mountains" metaphor grows tiresome). Martin's thoughtful illustrations get across what a tough cookie Lockwood was. An author's note provides more history. Timeline. Bib., glos.
