Clarence, a nice enough pig, packs his bags and heads out west, where he meets a purple ranch horse named Smoky. After Smoky shows Clarence the sights and teaches him about cowboy life, he tells Clarence that the ranch is selling him, and the two friends may never see each other again. Although Adams's story gets off to a slow start and is resolved too easily, her characters are appealing, as is her colorful artwork.
